WWI Lantern

The U.S. World War I lantern, a portable kerosene-powered light, was a critical tool for soldiers navigating the darkness of trenches and camps. Made of metal with a glass enclosure to shield the flame, the lantern was built for durability in challenging, low-light conditions. Yet, its faint glow represents the soldiers' vulnerability, providing only a limited and fragile light source in an environment where exposure often came with grave risks. This modest tool offered a glimpse of safety and guidance in the constant shadow of danger that defined life on the battlefield.
